Concord city council members will vote this week on whether to give a local flight training center a $56,527 tax rebate over three years to expand. FlyRight is a training center located across the street from the Concord Regional Airport. The company plans to invest $5 million to build a second flight simulator. Concord City Manager Brian Hiatt says he hopes this will translate to more business for the airport.

As part of the sequestration cuts to the federal budget, the Federal Aviation Administration has given the city of Concord official notice that it will end the contract that funds the tower program at Concord Regional Airport.

S&D To Add 200 Jobs In Concord

If you’re a coffee drinker, there’s a good chance you’ve had a cup of S&D Coffee and don’t know it. The Concord-based company supplies McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Circle K, and Krispy Kreme, among others, with coffee, tea, and creamers. S&D has over 600 employees in the state and now plans to add another 200 to that count.

Teen Charged In Vandalism Of Tombstones

City workers in Concord say they were really creeped out on Thursday morning.

At 11:30, a city employee who helps care for the Oakwood cemetery noticed something really strange. A teenager was pushing over tombstones in the furthest section of the 44-acre cemetery. The employee immediately called police.

David Ratchford is the city of Concord's director of building and grounds. He looks after Oakwood, which is one of the city's four cemeteries.

"This is just shocking, we've never had this level of vandalism," Ratchford says.

Concord, Kannapolis Will Upgrade To Electric-Hybrid Buses

If you ride the bus in Concord and Kannapolis, you’ll soon be seeing some big changes. The cities’ joint bus system called Rider Transit will be getting eight new hybrid-electric buses with free WiFi hotspots. There will also be service on Sundays starting in October 2013 and several improvements to bus stops, including a doubling of the number of shelters, solar-powered street lights and improved security system.
