Mecklenburg County's request for the city of Charlotte's help paying for artificial turf at a renovated Memorial Stadium is moving forward.  Members of the City Council's Economic Development Committee voted 3-1 Thursday to recommend the project to the full council.

This year's Democratic primary campaign for Mecklenburg County Sheriff has been a lively one, with a first-term incumbent facing two outspoken challengers. They've criticized the sheriff over his support for the federal immigration enforcement program known as 287(g), for eliminating in-person jail visits and for the jail's use of solitary confinement.

The Charlotte city council voted Monday night to help finance 11 proposed affordable apartment projects around the city. But only a handful likely will move forward this year.

The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against a Charlotte man's lawsuit that challenged North Carolina's "winner-take-all" electoral vote system.  The court upheld a lower court's dismissal of the federal suit by retired Charlotte lawyer Ronald Calvin Williams.
